Cubitt Town

Image Number:

Island History Trust Image Collection

"Millwall Extension Railway, Cubitt Town Station (the approximate site of the modern Crossharbour Station on the Docklands Light Railway). Date, about 1900 or earlier. MER was built in the 1870s and was mainly used by people from south of the river coming to the Island to work. The railway closed for the General Strike in 1926 and it was not considered worth re-opening afterwards,s because profits were falling due to competition from the new bus companies. " Donated by C.
