East London Sunday League Quarter Final at East London Stadium, Mile End Park in the early 1970s. The ‘Star’ team, originally ‘Star of the East’, formed in 1947, usually made up of Island players and based at a local pub, such as ‘ The Nelson, ‘The North Pole, etc. Still going today, the Star was first managed by George Capper, then Denny Padgett, and now George Pye; it is probably the oldest junior club in existence.In the back row: Johnny Hall, Les Charker and Jimmy Pye.
